The Faculty of Food Technology (Croatian: Prehrambeno-tehnološki fakultet) is a faculty of the University of Osijek.
History[edit]
In 1970, the council of the Higher School of Agriculture in Osijek, at the initiative of several professors of the Biotechnology Department of the Faculty of Technology in Zagreb, founded the Food Technology Department within the Higher School of Acgriculture. The following year, the Higher School of Agriculture became the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Technology.
After the founding of the University of Osijek in 1975, the Faculty of Food Technology was created, and it started working in 1976. It was part of the Biotechnical Science and Education Center. Immediately after the independence, the construction of a new building on the Tenjska road began, which the faculty began to use in the 1980s.
During the Croatian war of Independence, the faculty had to leave the building since it was on the very edge of the defense line of Osijek. It was relentlessly destroyed. Nevertheless, the faculty did not cease to work because the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology in Zagreb allowed the classes to be held in their classrooms. After the end of intense attacks, the faculty acted in several places throughout Osijek, until it finally settled down in Tvrđa, where it operates today.[1] The plan is to build a new faculty building on the University of Osijek campus area.[2]
