Falan Andrea Jansen (Sinhala : ෆැලන් ඇන්ඩ්රියා ජැන්සන්, born on 13 September 1995) is a Sri Lankan singer and performer. She began her career in music after winning the title in Derana Dream Star season IX.[1][2][3] She is a versatile singer of many genres.[4][5][6]
Early life
Falan Andrea was born on 13 September 1995 in Kaluthara, Sri Lanka, as the eldest child of Rex Jansen, a former police officer and Renuka Jansen, a government teacher. She has two younger sisters.[4] Falan attended Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya where she mainly studied oriental music. Later she learned oriental music from Dr. Nanda Malini.[7][8] She studied Human resource management after leaving high school and worked at a private company.[5]
Music career
In several interviews Falan has talked about her love for music since she was a kid.[5][9] Before Derana Dream Star, she won the 1st place in "Friends in Action", a music competition organised by the Rotaract Club of Achievers Lanka Business School, in 2017.[10][11] Also Falan was a backup singer in Charitha Attalage's "Kuweni" concert back in 2019.[citation needed]
Falan applied for Derana Dream Star's ninth season in 2019 and won the title in the grand finale of the competition which was held on 19 September 2020.[1][12] In the finale, the three songs she sang were 70s Sri Lankan songs by H. R. Jothipala, M. S. Fernando and C. T. Fernando.[3][6]
After winning the competition she was criticised for what she wore in the grand finale and also for her voice, in social media by a group of people.[13][14] She addressed the issue in several interviews.[5][7][15][16][17]
"Viyole", a song she sang is the first video of Derana dream star season IX to reach 1 million views on you tube and 6th video of the Dream Star history to reach 1 million views.[5] Five of the songs she sang in the competition reached 1 million views each in youtube within 10 months of the final.[citation needed]
Her first original song is a collaboration with Pop Punk, named "Me Dase Mage Wedana" which was released in May, 2020.[citation needed] Then she did collaborations with Subee and Ravi Royster ("Ukusa" and "Mal Heeyen").[citation needed] Just after winning Derana Dream Star title, Rajiv Sebastian, a veteran Sri Lankan singer invited her to do a song with him and they collaborated the song "Mama Hamadamath".[18][19][20][21]
At The 42nd Observer SLT Mobitel Schools Cricketer of the Year 2020 which was held at BMICH in April 2021, the performances were led by Falan along with Randhir Witana.[22][23] She performed again at The 43rd Observer SLT Mobitel School Cricketers of the Year 2021.[24][25]
In 2021 Falan released more originals, singles and collaborations including her debut song "Patalee" and "Haadu".[4][14][26] She attended her first overseas concert "Infinity live in Dubai" held at Jumeirah Creekside Hotel, Dubai on 5 November 2021.[citation needed]
Brand ambassadorships
Falan currently acts as the brand ambassador for SLTMobitel, Singer Sri Lanka, Glow & Lovely Sri Lanka and Nations Trust Bank.[27][28][29][30] She's also the promotional star of Lionco.[4]
