Familia Records is an independent record label based in Southern California. Familia “pioneered underground Chicano rap” with its roster of artists such as Spanish Fly, Knightowl, Mr. Lil One, and Lil Rob.[1] It primarily releases hardcore, underground, gangster rap and Chicano Rap.
Some of the most recognizable Chicano rappers of the 1990s debuted under the Familia Records label. Former rapper Lil’ Menace spoke of Brumfield's company being the hottest label at the time for Chicano Rap.[2] On his guest appearance on the Roadium Radio YouTube podcast hosted by Tony A. Da Wizard, Murry Brumfield revealed that Spanish Fly was his first artist on the label.[3] Rapper Mack 10 was once part of the Inglewood-based group named 1st Amendment [4] which had a few singles on Familia Records.
Brumfield also served as executive producer in the slew of releases his label had over the years.[5]
