Fanfan LI

Fanfan Li (chinois simplifié: 李芳芳; pinyin: Lǐ fāng fāng), is a contemporary painter, born in 1958 in Shenyang, China[1].

Biography

Fanfan Li comes from a family of artists and scholars; her parents were writers, poets and journalists.

She developed a passion for painting at a very young age and studied traditional and Western painting with great Masters: Yu Jigao in Nanjing, Shen Roujian in Shanghai.

In 1979, she graduated in Architecture from the Design and Research Institute of China Metallurgical Construction.

In 1986, she moved to New York and studied jewelry design at Fashion Institute of Technology.

She won the Prize Van Cleef & Arpels for Best Young Designer in 1989, awarded by the Comité Colbert.

Fanfan Li then began a career as a designer which led her to create for the most prestigious Maisons of Haute Joaillerie (Van Cleef & Arpels, Bulgari, Cartier).

She co-published three books on jewelry design, published by Schiffer, which have become reference manuals.

During this period, Fanfan Li continued to paint and created traditional Chinese works Gong Bi.

Since settling in France in 2002, Fanfan Li has participated in numerous art events, personal and collective exhibitions.

The artist is also passionate about other artistic achievements:

She painted the Boogie Bonheur and Atelier du Maître handbag collection for CELINE, in 2004 presented during the commemoration the year of China in France.

She produced a painting for the Salon du Livre 2004, of which she dedicated the lithograph n°1 to the President Jacques Chirac.

In 2007, she wrote "La Voie du Rêve" (A way paved with dreams), published by You Feng, a widely illustrated trilingual autobiographical book.

Fanfan Li creates a series of paintings intended for the publication of the collection book bibliophile La Pérégrination vers l’Ouest, editions of Art Les Heures Claires, which she won the "Prix de la Nuit du Livre ® 2015".

L’artiste évolue alors vers une seconde période avec une peinture occidentale plus libre et contemporaine.

Her works are exhibited in prestigious places in many cities in France and galleries abroad: New York, Tokyo... They are present among collectors and private and public institutions: the Château de Villandry, le Cercle de l'Union Interalliée where her paintings rub shoulders with paintings of Zao Wou-Ki…

Style

Fanfan Li's personal style reflects her attachment to the different movements she studied in China, the United States and France: Symbolisme, Néoplasticisme, Bauhaus.

Her works relate to nature and time, with destiny.
