Fanyu Lin

Fanyu Lin is a Chinese (PRC) architect, architectural theorist and the CEO of Fluxus llc. (a concern working towards the building of pre-fab housing as inspired by George Maciunas the founder of Fluxus), who is living and working in New York CIty, New York, United States.[1]

Biography[edit]

Lin received her master's degree in advanced architectural design from the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University,.[2] At Columbia she has been a collaborator with Christos Constantinou, Ryan Zhang, Yu-Han Lee, Faezeh Arefnazari + Rustem Baishev A/B/C, Karl Bengzon, Damon Lau, Dan Taeyoung Lee and Alexander Malagelada + Fereshteh Tabe D/E in the experimental design studio CBIP2 (Columbia Building Intelligence Project) which in among other efforts has applied algorithms to theoretical designs detailed in architectural renderings and computer simulations.[3]

Lin worked a studio designer for Divooe Zein architects and on among other projects for them a woodland greenhouse in Tapei, Taiwan which covers a woodland glade in the vicinity of the metropolis. Of its purpose she has said ..."This project is to explore the possibility of Primitive Senses through five senses of our own," .... "So architecture is only a part of this project"... and that ..."The material we used is not designed for people to live there comfortably, but in contrary it's designed for plants and animals to stay,.." In 2013 Lin and Harry Stendhal co-founded Fluxus llc which she describes as being.."committed to scaling solutions for providing sustainable and affordable housing, and building dignified homes for all, through a unique prefabricated building technology, utilizing advanced building materials and a fully integrated technology platform – the Fluxus System"... .[5]

In 2014 Lin's research on prefabricated Fluxus housing as envisioned by the movement's founder the aforementioned George Maciunas was incorporated in the 14th edition of the Venice Biennale of Architecture curated by Rem Koolhaas.[6] Also in 2014 Lin co-curated the exhibition "Fluxus in China" (with Fang Zhenning and Harry Stnedahl) organized by the Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture Graduate School of Architecture Design and Art. The exhibition included a 150-page accompanying catalogue.[7]

in 2017 Lin was awarded a SOCAP (social entrepreneur) scholarship.[8] At the conference she was interviewed by Mark Horoszowski of the Huffington Post on her experience in helping to birth a startup firm and said ..."It is no easy task, but you are not alone. Impact enterprise will be a new normal for businesses guided by long term visions for sustainable development. Try to envision, define and measure the impacts of your business, and make sure social, environmental and financial returns are valued equally"...[9] She has been noted as a successful social entrepreneur by Huffington Post.[10]
