Far Apart was a Swedish indie/emo band formed in Luleå, active from June 1995 to late 1999. The band consisted of Mats Ömalm (guitar, vocals), Stefan Sundström (guitar), Mats "Isse" Isaksson (bass) (1995-1996) , Kalle Nyman (bass, vocals) (1996-1999), Tomas Turunen (1995-1996) (drums), Patrik Heikkinpieti (1996-1997) (drums), and Tomas Nilsén (1997-1999) (drums).[1] They have been compared sonically to Texas Is The Reason and The Promise Ring.[2] After releasing two demo tapes, the band released their first EP, "Hazel" in November 1997 on the Swedish independent label Carcrash. In May 1998, it was released in America under the independent label Crank! Records.[3]
Following the release of "Hazel" in the US, some major labels approached the band, but they refused to sign due to their strong anti-corporate stance. The band remained unsigned for the rest of their career. Around this time, Far Apart befriended The John Doe Band, from Vänersborg, Sweden. Together they recorded and toured for their joint EP which contained two songs by each band. This was released in 1998 on Premonition Records in Sweden and The Smith & Nephew Company in Germany. [4]
Far Apart's unreleased CD "The Blood Meridian Record" was rumoured to be in the works in 1999, but the band broke up for unknown reasons at this time.
