The Far Eastern University – Institute of Arts and Sciences, or simply IAS, is the academic institute offering humanities, liberal arts, and sciences of the Far Eastern University. It is one of the founding institutes that comprised the university in 1934.[1]

Much of the institute's programs are certified by the ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA)[2] and accredited Level III and II by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA).[3]

Brief history[edit]

Although created after the incorporation of the Far Eastern University (FEU) in 1934, IAS's history traces back to 1919; upon the establishment of the Far Eastern College by Don Vicente Fabella, which offered courses in the liberal arts.[4]

In 1933, Nicanor Reyes Sr. would have control over the stocks of the college, then merging it with his school, the Institute of Accounts, Business, and Finance (IABF), creating the FEU.[5] Under FEU, the college was made into an academic institute, now known as the Institute of Arts and Sciences; while the IABF retained its name.[6][7] It is regarded as one of the older institutes of the university after IABF.[8]

Initially, IAS offered Liberal Arts and Pre-law programs, adding its medical science programs later on.[citation needed]
