Farah London is a British businesswoman and entrepreneur, born and raised in the borough of Croydon in London, and a 2021 London Mayoral candidate.[1]
Early life
Farah London was born in 1978 in Croydon and studied International Business at the University of Westminster.[2]
Career
Farah London started her career as a broker for Lloyd's of London and then as an underwriter, writing policies in energy, hospitality, climate change, terrorism and environmental liability. She is founder and CEO of two companies, a digital branding and events firm and 'Back 2 Business', an international trading network and business forum. London was also a former Conservative Party campaigner but quit in early 2020.[2]
2021 London mayoral election
On Monday, 12th October 2020, Farah London announced her run for Mayor of London in the 2021 elections.[1][3] She entered the race to provide a "credible alternative" to incumbent Mayor Sadiq Khan and the Conservative Party’s candidate Shaun Bailey.[4] London is an Independent candidate and considers herself unconstrained by party politics and against career politicians.[4] Her campaign slogan is “Bring London Back”, a reference to the declining safety and affordability in the capital.[4][5] London has a vision to become the capital's first female mayor and establish the UK city as the world’s next best tech hub.[6] London’s vision includes: making London more affordable to its people, fighting the spread of knife crime and gang violence, transforming London into the world’s biggest tech city, reducing the Congestion Charge to £12 and 5 days a week, implementing a long-term environmental protection drive across London and increasing London’s supply of housing by simplifying planning rules and through expanding the development of private and public sector projects.[4] Farah London has also committed to reversing Sadiq Khan’s decision to close 38 of the 73 police stations with front desks and she has also promised to get 6,000 more officers and special constables hired into the Metropolitan Police.[4] She also recently announced she will offer free travel across the capital for her first 100 days in office to give a boost to the city’s economy once national travel restrictions are lifted.[7] Farah London pledges to tackle homelessness in the capital and announced she plans to build low-cost eco-villages across London,[8] and also vowed to introduce pet-friendly tenancy clauses, promising to work with housing associations and local authorities to promote contracts that allow Londoners to keep their animals, proving that, despite over 2.7 million people renting in London, only 8.5 per cent of advertised rental properties were available to pet owners in 2019.[9][10]
Personal life
Farah London lives in the Tower Hill area of London with her two dogs, Albert and Coco.[2] London continues to help homeless charities in addition to being one of 250,000 NHS volunteer responders in the capital.[7]
