Farah Yousry is an award-winning multimedia journalist who has worked for news organizations in the U.S. and abroad. Her work as an editor and reporter has been published nationally and internationally by organizations like National Public Radio (NPR)[1][2][3][4], KFF Health News[5][6][7], the Associated Press[8] and the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC World Service)[9][10]. She has reported for print, video and radio platforms from the U.S. and the Middle East in both English and Arabic.

Most recently, she served as the Managing Editor for Side Effects Public Media, a health reporting collaboration of NPR member stations in the Midwest. She's helped report and lead a team of reporters editorially through milestones such as the COVID-19 pandemic[11], the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022[12] and the changes to safety-net programs[13] such as Medicaid since the COVID pandemic.

Education and early career

Farah Yousry was born and raised in Cairo, Egypt. She earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from the American University in Cairo. She started working for local news organizations in Egypt during her senior year and a few years after graduation, when she covered the Arab Spring protests and the contentious political period that followed. After that, she worked as a political officer for the British Embassy in Cairo.

She moved with her family to the United States in 2015 and started working for the BBC World's Arabic Service producing radio and video news features for an audience in Europe and the Middle East. She covered a wide range of topics including two U.S. presidential elections, health, technology and culture.
