Faraz Minooei is an Iranian Santur player, composer, performer, ethnomusicologist and teacher.
Education[edit]
Despite his interest in science Minooei studied World and Jazz at San Francisco State University. He later receives his Master of Fine Art in Integrated Composition, Improvisation and Technology from University of California, Irvine.[1]
Career[edit]
Minooei has performed and collaborated with many artists, including Vijay Iyer,[2] Kayhan Kalhor and Yo-Yo Ma[3] (for the 50th Anniversary of the Lincoln Center in New York).[4]
Since 2006, Faraz has been giving lectures in universities such as Stanford University,[5] UC Irvine, UC Santa Cruz, UC Los Angeles.[6] He has played the santur on Hafez Modirzadeh's album Post Chromodal Out.[7][8][9][10]
Minooei gave a presentation on middle school education at Stanford in February 2012, after performing at the Stanford Pan-Asian Music Festival.[11]
Minooei has provided music for musical theater.[12]
In 2014, Minooei played sanfur on five tracks of Hafez Modrizadeh's album In Convergence Liberation[13]
