He was born in Nagymaros into an old Hungarian aristocrat family as the sixth child of Count Dániel Bethlen de Bethlen (1917-1977), and Countess Ilona Bethlen de Bethlen (1924-2003). Count Dániel and Countess Ilona Bethlen de Bethlen were first cousins. He finished his secondary studies at the Franciscan Grammar School in Esztergom. He worked as a car mechanic for six years after the school. He established a small textile factory in Szentendre. After that he founded the Danube Bend Radio in Vác.
