Farook Mohammed (29 August 1985) is a major South African artist, his focus has been on capturing past and present history with a cultural twist combining the concept of Ubuntu (Ukhuwah in Arabic) meaning unity, brotherhood and humanness in his creative artworks bringing something new and fresh to the Art Market. He achieved national recognition winning the 2021 Mzansi Arts and Media Awards under the category of best events organizer for his efforts in helping other artists promote their work through the Exhibition at the Athenaeum South Africa; which came as a response to the closure of venues due to the covid19 pandemic. He is currently working in secret for his 2022 Exhibition season.

Life[edit]

Farook was born in Nelson Mandela Bay, a metropolitan city in the Eastern Cape, of pro-Boer German-Afrikaner father, pro-Pan African Canadian-Madagascan-Arab mother and considers himself an AfroEuRabian. Farook favors pro-Globalist leanings and believes the world should be without borders and racism.

Farook is also an activist and signatory on the Artist Charter and considered among the leaders in the Arts arena.

Exhibitions and Art Competitions[edit]

Farook has taken part in National and International Art competitions such as the Mzansi Art Gallery Competition & Exhibition 2021, The 2021 New Now Emerging Artist Competition hosted by Galerie NOKO, sponsored by VANSA [Visual Artist Network of South Africa], L’atelier [Continental, Sponsored by ABSA Bank] and Climanosco (Switzerland) for Art And Science on the topic of Global Warming and Rising Water Levels & State of The Art Gallery Competition on the same theme of Global Warming among others. He has also the winner in the Mzansi Arts and Media Awards 2021 under the Category of Best Events Organizer for helping other Artists promote their work.

His artworks are currently on Exhibition at The Athenaeum South Africa where he is resident Artist. The Athenaeum is a grand Victorian styled building with a long history behind it in Arts, Culture and Heritage; situated on Cnr Athol Fugard Terrace and Caste Hill, Central, Gqeberha (Formerly Port Elizabeth) in Nelson Mandela Bay.

The Athenaeum' (an institution for the promotion of literary or scientific learning) building is at the heart of a burgeoning creative industry in Gqeberha/ Port Elizabeth, Nelson Mandela Bay.[1] The building aims to cultivate, develop and promote the culture, heritage and arts of the Eastern Cape.[2] It was opened on 26 July 1896 and was designed by George William Smith.[3] It was declared a national monument in 1980[1] and is listed as one of the provincial heritage sites of Port Elizabeth.
