Faruque Hossain (Bengali: ফারুক হোসেন) (born 1 January 1961) is a Bangladeshi writer, rhymer. His major works include Panama Rohoshya (1990), Ghurir Moto Uri (2016) and 800 Rhymes (2017). He earned the Dhaka University Literature Award, Chondraboti Academy Gold Medal, Bangladesh Shishu Sahitya Sangsad Award, Sikandar Abu Zafar Literature Award, and Michael Modhusudan Academy Award. He is a life member of Bangla Academy and Founder Director of the proposed Bangladesh Rhyme Academy.

Early life and education

Hossain was born to Mozammel Hossain and Firoza Begum in 1961 in Chandpur, Bangladesh. He earned an MSc degree in Soil Science from University of Dhaka in 1983 and a Master’s in Public Procurement from Turin University, Italy.

Career

In 1976, Hossain entered the arena of literature through his writing in Daily Amod, a vernacular daily published from then Comilla. He started his literary career with work in all branches of literature, such as rhyme, story, juvenile poetry, article, and travelogue.

Hossain is also a civil servant. He is now Director General of Central Procurement Technical Unit. [1], [2] His lyrics in a procurement music video have drawn appreciation.

Hossain’s compilation of his 800 rhymes in a single volume has earned him applause from the literary circle.
