Farzana Chowdhury Ria (better known as Farzana Riya Chowdhury) is a Bangladeshi model, dancer, choreographer and actress.[1] She is also a teacher and a judge on several dance shows aired on TV.[2] She made her debut as a model in the advertisement of Cocola Biscuits. Her first TV drama appearance was in “Ekaki Ekela”, followed by several short plays and tele films. During that time, she played on drama serials, “Hajar Ronger Shopno”, “Shopno Shomudro” and “Kagoj er Nouka” which lead her to stardom.[3][4]
Early Life[edit]
Ria started her journey to stardom from the age of five or six years. She was taught dance from Shahidul Islam Khokon, Sohel Rahman and Rahiza Khanom Jhunu.[5] After she finished her certificate course at Bulbul Lalitakala Academy she learnt Kathak under Anup Das.[6] After SSC and HSC from Agrani School and College, she completed her Bachelor's degree in Social Welfare from Eden Mohila College and her Master's degree in the same subject from Lalmatia Women's College.[7]
Career[edit]
Ria ventured out into the world of entertainment as a teenager. She started appearing in the media with TVCs from 1992.[8] She made her debut with a TVC of Cocola Biscuits advrtisement when she was in class IX. She continued her modelling career with successive appearances in several TVCs.[4] Her performance in TVCs lead her fame in the media and steered her towards acting. Ria's first television appearance was in "Ekaki Ekela", followed by several short films and TV series.[8] Meanwhile, BTV has aired two Ria series - “Hajar Ronger Shopno” and “Shopno Shomudro” that made her a star.[4] She was host in sevaral TV prorams.[9] In Addition to these, she has appeared on TV many times in various dance programs, videos of which are still found on YouTube.[10] Last she apeard in TV as a judge in a dance reality show named Nacho Bangladesh Nacho.[11][12]
Personal Life[edit]
Her father Zahurul Haque Chowdhury was a lawyer and her mother Ela Zahur Chowdhury was a housewife.[7] Her hometown is Subid Bazar, Sylhet. She has an elder sister named Jaya, who is a doctor by profession.[13] Riya married a pilot named Minhaz in 2008. Then the marriage ended in divorce. In 7 March 2013, she married Evan Chowdhury, an American expatriate software engineer.[14] Together they have a son.[15][8] She currently resides in New York, USA.[16]
