Fear & Loathing IX was a live event by Insane Championship Wrestling which took place at The SSE Hydro on 20 November 2016 in Glasgow, Scotland. It is the company's biggest show of the year and this event marks the company's debut show at The SSE Hydro. It is the third year in a row that the company has broken its all-time attendance record at Fear and Loathing.[citation needed]
Background[edit]
Mick Foley was announced to make his second ICW appearance at this event, (following Fear & Loathing VIII last year) returning again as ICW Commissioner for the evening.[1] On 23 October 2016, Mark Dallas announced that, due to Foley being required to attend the WWE Survivor Series pay-per-view on the same night, he would be unable to attend Fear & Loathing IX. In his place, however, Foley said he would be sending a handpicked special guest enforcer to oversee the Team Dallas/Team Black Label match, which was revealed to be former ICW Zero-G Champion and current WWE Superstar, Finn Balor.[2]
On 8 May 2016, "General Bollocks" Kenny Williams announced at the ICW Fight Club taping at The Garage that Kurt Angle would be making his ICW debut at Fear & Loathing IX. At Shug's Hoose Party 3, Joe Coffey defeated Big Damo to earn the right to face Angle at Fear & Loathing IX.[3][4]
On 28 August 2016, ICW co-owner Mark Dallas announced that at Fear & Loathing IX, Team 3D would be making their ICW debut and challenging for the ICW Tag Team Championship.[5]
After becoming co-owner of ICW due to Mark Dallas team being victorious (thus Dallas gaining 50% ownership of ICW) at Shug's Hoose Party 3, Red Lightning issued a challenge to Mark Dallas for Fear & Loathing IX - a ten-man tag team match for complete 100% control of ICW. On 11 September 2016, Dallas accepted Red's challenge for the match.[6]
On 11 September 2016, at ICW Fight Club Lionheart announced he would be defending the ICW Zero-G Championship in a Stairway to Heaven match at Fear & Loathing IX. Six competitors will compete in the ring in an elimination style match until only two competitors remain. Those final two competitors will then compete under Ladder match rules with the winner being crowned the ICW Zero-G Champion.[7]
