Feargal McKey

Feargal McKey is an Irish doctor and documentary filmmaker from Dromara, County Down. He is recognized for his medical career and contributions to documentary filmmaking.[tone]

Early life and education

McKey was born in Dromara, County Down. He attended St. Colman's College in Newry where, in 2017, he was awarded the Norbrook Award for highest overall achiever at GCSE, achieving 11 A* grades.[1] He also placed third in Northern Ireland for GCSE Business Studies in the same year.[2]

He later completed his A Levels with 4 A* grades,[3] and was featured in St. Colman's College's recognition of top students.[4]

In 2024, McKey graduated with distinction[citation needed] (MB BCh BAO) from Queen's University Belfast.[citation needed] Since graduation in 2024, he has worked as a junior doctor in the NHS.[citation needed]

Documentary filmmaking

Between 2019 and 2021, McKey created several short films focusing on cultural and historical narratives. His works include:[citation needed]

  • Screen Fright (2021)

He is currently[when?] collaborating with filmmaker John Farrelly on a documentary exploring the history and cultural significance of the "Curse of Mayo".[citation needed]

Personal life

McKey is actively[tone] involved in Gaelic games, playing football for his local club, Dromara GAA. He also has a keen interest in literature, particularly stories of resilience and triumph.[tone]
