February 2018 stock market selloff
The February 2018 stock market selloff began when the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 2,756 points during a two-week period, from an all-time high of 26,616 points on Friday, January 26th through its close on Thursday, February 8th, 2018, wiping out over 2 months of gains. Additionally, the Dow recorded its two largest daily point drops in history during the period t, each of over 1,000 points, marking the first time the Dow closed over 1,000 points lower in a single session. In the month from 1/6/2018 to 2/6/2018 cryptocurrency total market capitalization also fell by more than 66%, after a 4,100% increase in the preceding year. Similar drops were seen in markets in Europe and Asia, though the markets in Europe mostly stabilized before opening at the beginning of Friday, February 9th.[1]
