The Federal Police Commission of the Federal Police is a federal law enforcement agency tasked to enforce, investigate federal law and statutes and their offenders from the federal government of Ethiopia. The Federal Police (FP) was formed in 1995 (which is apart and is the same organization as the Federal Police Commission).[1]

History

The Federal Police Commission, or the Federal Police, was formed in 1995 to keep the public peace and defend the constitution while upholding federal law and statutes.

The federal police is a federal entity which can enforce federal law, investigate federal law offences and crimes, and apprehend suspects, and help local law enforcement. For investigation, the CIB (Crime Investigation Bureau) is used; for arrest and enforcing law, normal federal police officers will carry out the duty. And for counter-terrorism and high-level crimes, special force vehicles made in Ethiopia will be used. The Ethiopian Federal Police also works with intelligence with the National Intelligence and Security Service. And also the Information Network Security Agency in cyber crimes.

Ranks

The Federal Police has 16 ranks, from the lowest to the highest. Constable; a peace officer with limited policing authority, typically in a small town. Assistant Sergeant; Helps the sergeant perform their duties. Deputy Sergeant; second in line before the sergeant. Sergeant; They perform all the duties of a police officer as well as supervise, coordinate, and guide police officers and other department employees in their daily activities. Chief Sergeant; Appointed by mayor or city council. Assistant Inspector. Deputy Inspector. Inspector; Chief Inspector; Deputy Commander; Commander; Assistant Commissioner. Deputy Commissioner; Commissioner; Deputy Commissioner General; Commissioner General.[2]

The Ethiopian Federal government possesses pistols, assault rifles, and snipers, as well as body armor.

Technology

The Federal Police and its Commissioner General, Demelash Gebremichael, had announced DNA tests for crime investigations, which the Crime Investigation Bureau (CIB) will be using for its investigations – the first of its kind in the country.[3]
