Felix Buxton (born 8 May 1970) is an is a British DJ, record producer and member of the electronic music duo Basement Jaxx, alongside Simon Ratcliffe. He co-founded the group in London in the mid-1990s. Basement Jaxx achieved widespread commercial success and critical recognition with multiple hit singles and awards, including winning a Grammy for for Best Electronic/Dance Album in 2004.[1]

Early Life

Felix Buxton was born on 8 May 1970 in London, England. He attended Loughborough Grammar School[2] before going on to study Engineering Design at the University of Exeter.

Career

Buxton co-founded Basement Jaxx with Simon Ratcliffe in 1994, initially running underground club nights in Brixton and releasing music through their own label, Atlantic Jaxx. Early EPs gained strong support in the UK club scene and helped establish their reputation for high-energy, genre-blending dance music.[3]

The duo achieved mainstream success with their debut album Remedy (1999), which included the hit single Red Alert. This was followed by Rooty (2001), featuring Where’s Your Head At? and Romeo”.

Further albums, including Kish Kash (2003), also received critical acclaim, with Kish Kash winning the Grammy Award for Best Electronic/Dance Album in 2004, and Basement Jaxx received multiple Brit Awards for Best British Dance Act during the 2000s.[4]

Buxton has remained active through DJ performances, production work and occasional Basement Jaxx projects, with the duo returning to live performances in the mid-2020s after a prolonged hiatus.
