Femimutancia
Femimutancia, pseudonym of Julia Inés Mamone, with chosen name Jules, (Villa Gesell, 1989) is an Argentine comic book artist and illustrator, a transfeminist non-binary person.[1][2] They have received several awards, such as the Stimulus Prize for Writing promoted by the Bunge y Born Foundation, the Proa Foundation, and the newspaper La Nación, as well as the Somos contest organized by the Casa Nacional del Bicentenario in Argentina.[3][4]
Career
They were born in the Argentine city of Villa Gesell in 1989.[2] Between the ages of 6 and 12, they lived in Zárate.[1] They began studying sociology and attended art workshops.[1] Their mentors include the Argentine comic book artist Enrique Alcatena and Salvador Sanz.[1]
They began publishing their work on social networks under the pseudonym Femimutancia to avoid possible reprisals.[1] Since 2017, they have participated in several fanzines, publications, and anthologies such as Clítoris, Poder Trans, Antología LGTBI, Pibas, Superbollo, Strapazin, Kus! Queer Power, and Club Vampire, among others.[5][6] In 2017, they self-published the fanzine Les niñes, which stems from the gender violence they suffered, for the 32nd National Women's Encounter in Resistencia, Chaco.[5]
They have written several graphic novels such as Alienígena (2018), Piedra Bruja (2019), Banzai (2021), and La madriguera (2022).[7] Their work addresses themes such as non-hegemonic bodies, the rupture of established gender roles, childhood abuse, chosen solitude, and the construction of sexual-affective bonds.[8]
In 2019, they co-founded the publishing label Feminismo Gráfico. The following year, the Centro Cultural Recoleta and the Sudestada publishing house selected their work for the Creación de historietas (Comic Creation) project.[9]
Awards and recognition
In 2017, they were one of the people selected in the LGBTI contest promoted by the Municipal Publishing House of Rosario (EMR) and the Directorate of Sexual Diversity.[8]
In 2020, they won the Stimulus Prize for Writing "Todos los tiempos el tiempo" in the graphic novel category, promoted by the Bunge y Born Foundation, the Proa Foundation, and the newspaper La Nación. The jury included, among others, the comic book artist Sole Otero and the writer Pola Oloixarac.[3][10] Also in 2020, they won the Somos illustration and comic contest on sexual diversity and gender identity, organized by the Casa Nacional del Bicentenario, which also recognized Malena Guerrero and Mariana Ortiz Linares - Zitro Tinta.[4]
