Brigadier Ferdi van Wyk SD SM MMM ( 3 July 1942 – 4 May 2019 (aged 76)) Senior Officer in the South African Army from the artillery.
Military career[edit]
He joined the Artillery as a National Serviceman on Jan 1961 and was a student at the South African Military Academy from 1962 and graduated with a Bachelor of Military Science degree awarded by the University of Stellenbosch in 1964.
Observation Post Officer at 143 Battery, 2 SA Infantry Battalion Group in 1965, Second in Command 43 Battery in December 1967. He completed the 2nd Long Gunnery Course during 1968 to 1969. Battery Commander, 41 Battery, 4 Field Regiment during 1970.
He was promoted to the rank of major on 1 October 1970. Battery Commander 1 Medium Battery during 1971. SO1 Research at Directorate Artillery from 1975 to 1976. Officer Commanding 14 Field Regiment from 1 September 1976 until 31 December 1980.
He was promoted to the rank of colonel on 1 January 1980 and appointed as a senior staff officer the Army Headquarters, Military Intelligence Division and back to the Army HQ. Col van Wyk completed the 16th SADF Joint Staff Course in 1985. Director Intelligence at GS2 from 1987 to 1990. Director Communications Operations for the Army during January 1991-31 March 1993. He was put on forced pension on 31 March 1993.
