The Fernhill Handicap is a Listed horse race run over 1600 metres for two-year-olds conducted by the Australian Turf Club at Randwick Racecourse, Sydney, Australia as part of The Championships.[1][2][3]
History
The Fernhill Handicap first run in 1928 is traditionally the first Sydney two-year-old race of the season run over 1600 metres and run under Quality Handicap conditions and programmed for horses preparing for the Group One Champagne Stakes since that race was increased in distance to 1600m in 1972. Since 1972 only 3 horses have won the Fernhill Handicap and Champagne Stakes double March Hare (1993), Dracula (1998) and Prized Icon (2016). However it has a valuable long term historical guide to classic races the following season.[4][5]
