  • Comment: Sample: Template:Tq is only for quoting in talk and project pages. Do not use it in actual articles. Doesn't any education that's worth the name, regardless of its subject, familiarize the learner with constructive criticism? Whether it what "helped her engage" was (A) constructive criticism or (B) familiarity with constructive criticism, does this kind of thing need to be written in an encyclopedia article? Fertessa Allyse is an American game designer. She has designed several games, including her first game, Book of Villainy..[1], a trick taking game called Wicked & Wise, and she co-designed Cascadia Junior, which was nominated for the 2025 Spiel des Jahres Children's game of the year award. She has made games for Disney, Star Trek, and Funko Games. She was also a contributor to the YouTube game review channel, Girls' Game Shelf.

She grew up in Atlanta, Georgia in the United States[2], but has been living in Seattle, WA since 2020[3]

Board Game Design Career

After a conversation with a friend implanted the idea of designing a game into her head, she began work on Book of Villainy[1][2]. She travelled around to conventions and game shops getting feedback[2] and kept an extensive log of her progress on BoardGameGeek thread that spanned 9 pages over 2 years[4]. An introvert, she turned to game design as both a creative outlet and a way to ease social awkwardness.[5] Allyse gained recognition by consistently staying active in the community and helping others.[6] Her education in Fine Arts gave her familiarity with the process of constructive criticism, which helped her engage with other game designers on BoardGameGeek. This connected her to various game design blogs and podcasts and helped her network towards employment with Prospero Hall/Funko Games[3]. In 2020 she moved from Atlanta to Seattle for its growing gaming culture and dense cluster of game companies, ultimately joining Funko as a game producer.[5] At Funko Games, she gained experience designing with a studio team and with designing for different age ranges and game complexities[3] As a game producer at Funko Games, she supports game design and development while keeping projects on schedule, contributing to several of the company's family‑friendly titles.[6]

Allyse's trick‑taking team game Wicked and Wise hit its $9,700 Kickstarter goal in a single day and raised over $20,000 by 2021.[5] She was a finalist for the Diana Jones Award in 2022.[7] Her game Cascadia Junior received a nomination for the Spiel des Jahres award in 2025.[8]
