The Fifth Vranitzky government was the 23th Austrian federal government which was from March 12, 1996 to January 28, 1997 in office. The federal government was formed after the 1995 legislative election.
After Chancellor Franz Vranitzky resigned after more than ten years as Chancellor on January 18th, 1997, President Klestil entrusted the government with the continuation of business until January 28. On January 28th, previous Minister of Finance Viktor Klima was appointed Chancellor of Austria by President Klestil.
