Fifty Shades Of Gay

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Fifty Shades Of Gay (FSOG) also referred as 50 Shades of Gay[1] is a next generation portal that focuses on topics that are taboo in India and aren’t openly discussed, such as safe sex practices, increasing child abuse, sex education, gender sensitisation and LGBTQIA+ stories.

History[edit]

Fifty Shades Of Gay was started in February of 2016[2], in the hopes to humanize the LGBT+ population, raise awareness and bridge the gap between the LGBT+ minority and the heterosexual majority.

In a country like India where topics such as sexuality, gender inequality and the dark reality of child abuse are shied away from, FSOG started a conversation about such “taboo” subjects[3]. This campaign intends to educate and make people aware about alternate sexualities and gender identities, it was India's first of it's kind campaign when it began that was educating people and also bringing awareness about LGBT+ communities in India.[citation needed]

Founder[edit]

Shubham Mehrotra[4][unreliable source?][5][unreliable source?] is the Founder and Editor-In-Chief of FSOG and an avid advocate for LGBT+ rights, she is also a founder and CEO of Laudco Media.[citation needed] She returned from China to India in 2016,[6] to fight for the rights of the LGBT+ community. She is also a TEDx speaker.[7][non-primary source needed]

In 2013, the Supreme Court of India re initiated Section 377, a law that was set in in 1860 by the British, which criminalizes alternate sexualitites. This gave a heavy blow to the Indian democracy and the rights of all the LGBTQIA citizens of India. Shubham[8][unreliable source?], who was living in Foshan, China at the time kept reading about Section 377 and the increasing number of hate crimes against the LGBT+ individuals back home[9]. In an interview[10] with Democracy News Live, she said it was rather regressive and sad that our Supreme Court couldn't uphold the fundamentals of our Constitution and the essence of democracy.[11] After coming back to India in 2016, the 24-year-old Shubham[12][unreliable source?] started FSOG in an attempt to make India a place where people understand and respect the big spectrum of gender identities, expression, and sexual orientation.[13]

Publication and Content[edit]

Being one of India's leading LGBTQIA+ portal, FSOG strives to end discrimination against LGBT+ people and foster a society free of prejudice, harassment, and violence by providing a space to explore[14] and increase your understanding regarding alternative sexualities, gender identity and expression in an open and non judgemental environment.[15]

In the April of 2016, FSOG started an online campaign called Straight Allies[16] that showcase the heterosexual community standing in solidarity with their LGBTQIA community. Celebrities like Sushanth Divgikar and Ssumier Pasricha[17] have been a part of FSOG and advocated for LGBTQIA rights.

The website does not restrict itself to stories about the LGBTQIA community but also is a huge advocate for body-positivity, building awareness for LGBTQIA issues, debunking myths about the community and hopes to create enough of an impact to humanizing the LGBT community.

FSOG started India's first Drag Race[18], a competition for Drag Queens and Kings of India, it is scheduled for shoot early in 2019. Inspired by RuPaul's Drag Race, FSOG has created the Indian version of the show
