Fight Ready is a mixed martial arts gym based in Scottsdale, Arizona. It is best known for producing Henry Cejudo who was the former UFC Bantamweight Champion and former UFC Flyweight Champion.[1]
Overview[edit]
In 2008, NFL offensive lineman Scott Peters helped established the Arizona branch of the MMA Gym Lion's Den.[2][3]
Fight Ready was founded in 2011[4] when Peters along with David Zowine decided to buy out the Arizona branch of the Lion's Den and renamed it to Fight Ready.[1] Currently Zowine is the sole owner of the gym.[1][5]
The gym provides classes to both adults and children. It was featured on KTVK where coach, Paris Stanford stated how the gym aimed to provide a safe training environment for the children there.[6] This was in response to discoveries illegal MMA fights being held without sufficient medical support that featured underage minors.[6]
The most notable fighter produced by the gym is Henry Cejudo who became a two-weight champion in the UFC Bantamweight and Flyweight divisions simultaneously.[1] His brother, Angel Cejudo[7] and his trainer, Eric Albarracin[8] are both wrestling coaches at Fight Ready.
Several former UFC champions have also moved to Fight Ready to train at. They include Jon Jones[9], Zhang Weilli[10] and Deiveson Figueiredo.[10] In addition, UFC title challengers who have trained at Fight Ready include Chan Sung Jung[10] and Paulo Costa.[8]
Controversies[edit]
In October 2021, former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Jon Jones was banned from Jackson Wink MMA Academy due to legal issues stemming from an alleged domestic violence incident against his fiancée.[11] He then moved to Fight Ready to train with Henry Cejudo which attracted some attention.[9] However the gym has stood by its decision.[9]
