Finalmente L’alba is an upcoming 1950’s period film starring Lily James, Joe Keery, Willem Dafoe, Rebecca Antonaci and Rachel Sennott. It is written and directed by Saverio Costanzo.

Cast[edit]

Synopsis[edit]

The film depicts an evening and night/time for a young actress on set of the Cinecittà Studios in Rome during the 1950s.[1] Over the course of the evening she will face up to the fact she is soon to be married a man she does not love and goes to the famed Studios for an audition. Lily James plays Josephine Esperanto, an actress playing an Egyptian in the film-within-the-film and realising that more realistic styles of acting, with skills she does not possess, are beginning to hamper and harm her career. Sean Lockwood (Keery) is an up and coming but insecure actor on the production whilst Rufus Priori (Dafoe) is a local art gallery owner.[2]

Production[edit]

Principal photography began in the summer of 2022 in Rome’s Cinecittà Studios. Shooting also took place at the Villa of the Quintilii in Rome. Speaking to Variety Costanzo said the film opens and closes at the Piazza di Spagna and the Spanish steps in Rome. The title translates as “Finally, Dawn Has Come”. The film is produced by Mario Gianani and Lorenzo Gangarossa for Wildside.[3] The production is part of a wider collaboration between Fremantle Media and the Cinecittà Studios which means they’re continuously renting six studios for half a decade.[4] The first look images from the filming saw Cosmopolitan magazine predicting a potential new Autumn hairstyle trend that could develop from Lily James’ long bob, ringlet hair and red lip makeup.[5]
