Finnian O’Connor (born 3 June 1994) is an Irish traditional musician and a member of the folk group The Mary Wallopers. He performs on the uilleann pipes, tin whistle and as a vocalist.
Early life
O’Connor was born at Daisy Hill Hospital, Newry, and grew up in Ballymakellett, Ravensdale, near Dundalk, County Louth. He comes from a musical family and appeared with them on the TG4 family-music programme Comhluadar Ceoil in March 2021.[1]
Career
O’Connor developed as a traditional musician and joined The Mary Wallopers in the early 2020s. He has since toured widely with the group across Ireland, the United Kingdom, North America and Australia, appearing on the band’s recordings and numerous live broadcasts.

- Glastonbury Festival – performed on the Park Stage in June 2024.[2]
- Electric Picnic – appeared on the Main Stage in August 2024.[3]
- Thomond Park, Limerick – supported Liam Gallagher on 14 July 2024.[4]
- Barrowland Ballroom, Glasgow – multiple sold-out shows in December 2024 (16, 18 and 19 December 2024) and a five-night residency announced for December 2025.[5][6]
- The band have sold out venues throughout the UK, USA and Australia.[7]

Musical style
O’Connor’s playing on uilleann pipes and whistle contributes to The Mary Wallopers’ mixture of traditional Irish folk with punk energy and social-commentary humour. The band are widely credited with popularising Irish trad among younger audiences.[12]
