Most of the members are Finnish Romani and sometimes of other Romani sub-groups.

History[edit]

The Finnish Gypsy Mafia was started in the 40s by poor Romani people in Finland. They funded their group by doing petty crime such as robbery, grand theft auto, theft and extortion but later later became serious crime like murder, assault, attempted murders, hijacking and fraud. They have many high-profile crimes such as the Porvoo police shootings, Porvoo McDonalds murders and the Seinäjoki torture murder. They have also many more such as the Helsinki bombing and arms trafficking. Many of the members have spent decades in prison and been accused of many murders.

Rap Music[edit]

The group has also been linked to rap music in Finland through Sicilia Records and the rappers Merzi, Taisto Tapulist, AV, BR or Roni True and Ioni. The rappers have all been to prison for serious offenses such as shootings, gun posession crimes and drug offences. The rappers can often be heard rapping the phrases FGM or Finland Gypsy Mafia as the biggest gang in Finland.

Crimes[edit]

Police Shooting of Porvoo[edit]

In 2019 two police officers were ambushed and the Granholm brothers Richard and Raymond Granholm shot the officers non-fatally and tried to rob them with the threat of murder. The brothers soon fled after back-up arrived and lead the police on a high-speed car chase to Tampere and were apprehended after a gun fight with the police but no shots hit officers. The pair were both sentenced to 15 years in prison in 2020.

The McDonalds Triple Murders of Porvoo[edit]

In 2010 a triple murder occured when Esa Åkerlund shot four people, killing three at a McDonalds in Porvoo when the car in front of Åkerlund had made racist remarks and been too slow. Esa Åkerlund walked out of his car and shot everyone in the car in front of him. The Porvoo courts gave him 15 years in prison plus the life sentence he had received for murdering his wife but been paroled after 14 years in 2009, a year before the triple murder.

Seinäjoki Torture Murder[edit]

In 2009 a man was found murdered in a basement. The toxicology report had shown that he had large amounts of methamphetamine in his blood and it was later found out it was force fed to him by Mertsi Allan Isberg, now going by the name Mike Soldier and an accomplice. The pair were taken to court on charges of murder that were later dropped to manslaughter and torture and were both given 10 years in Prison for which Soldier served seven years. He was then an associate of the Finnish Gypsy Mafia but later became a member of the United Brotherhood (UB) biker group or MC
