Firdausul Hasan is a film producer from Kolkata. His production house, Friends Communication, won Best Feature Film in Bengali at the 65th National Film Awards for his film Mayurakshi.[2] He was the former president of the Film Federation of India from 2019 to 2020.[3][4] Under his leadership, FFI organized its first Global Cinema Festival and Bharat Bangladesh Film Awards. In 2015, he chaired the position of the president of the Bengal Film and Television Chamber of Commerce until 2021.
Biography
Hasan went to St. James' School. After finishing school, he was accepted into St. Xavier's College, Kolkata, where he completed his graduation. In his graduation days, he became involved with the students' union and was elected General Secretary of the College Students' Union. He was the honorary secretary of the St. Xavier's College, Kolkata Calcutta Alumni Association from 2007 to 2009, 2011 to 2017, and 2021–.
Career
He has been working in the Bengali film industry as a producer. He founded and still runs the film production and distribution company called Friends Communication. Apart from the film production and distribution company, he owns an event management company known as "Flicker Book Entertainment LLP". He has also been involved in an administrative and proprietorship capacity with three colleges in Baharampore, West Bengal, India. The colleges are called Baharampore B.ed college, Baharampore D.L ED college and Baharampore Science and Management College. He is also the franchise owner of the dart shooting team registered in India, called the Sharp Shooters Sporting Club.
Awards and accolades
National Award for the "Best Bengali Feature Film" at the 65th National Film Awards in 2018 for his production "Mayurakshi". He also won the "Best Indian Cinema Award" at the 10th Bengaluru International Film Festival. Other awards include the Mother Teresa Millennium Award (2019), XIA Business Leader of the Year (2018), XIA Outstanding Alumni (2019), and the Dosobhuja Bangali Award (2020). He was awarded the Xaverian Award for Exemplary Service (2023).[5] His films were selected for the Indian Panorama at the International Film Festival of India: Natoker Moto (2015), Meghnadh Bodh Rohossyo (2017), and Mahananda (2022). The film Aparajito was selected for the Toronto International Film Festival, 21st Dhaka International Film Festival, and BRICS Film Festival Shanghai. His films Shesh Pata (2022) and Padatik (2023) were selected for the Kerala International Film Festival. Aparajito was also selected for the 14th Bengaluru International Film Festival in the competitive section, won the FIPRESCI International Critics Award, and was selected as one of the 10 Best Indie Films by NDTV [6] as well as being selected as a Best Bengali film by The Telegraph.[7] In 2024, Shesh Pata won 5 Filmfare Awards.[8]
