Fire Extinguishing Ball is a fire extinguishing device that automatically activates when exposed to flames. When it exposed to flames, it breaks a chain reaction and cut off the continuous reaction of the fire It can also surveillance the fire automatically 24 hours a day for 5 years without maintenance costs, can extinguish fire within 3-10 seconds.
Background[edit]
The Automatic Fire Extinguishing Ball was born from the idea of a Thai inventor. Mr. Phanawatnan Kaimart (former name Woradech) from his witnessing the fire incident at the Royal Jomtien Resort Hotel Pattaya, Jomtien Beach, Pattaya, Chonburi, which killed 91 people and injured 53 people on July 11, 1997, which he felt very depressed and was inspired to invent the Fire Extinguishing Ball.
Fire Extinguishing Ball had been submitted to the invention contest in Brussels Eureka 2001, 50th Anniversary of The Exhibition Research and New Technology on 13-19 November 2001[1], and the invention was developed into commercial by Siam Safety Premier Co., Ltd.(later changed the name to Elide Fire Ball Pro Co., Ltd.). Fire Extinguishing Ball has been patented under US Patent No. US 6796382B2[2], World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) No. WO2004014489[3], and No. WO2008150265. [4] and registered a trademark as "ELIDE FIRE fire extinguishing ball" until the invention has receiving a test manual from the Department of Science Service on February 23, 2003. Later, the Ministry of Industry of the Kingdom of Thailand announced Product Standard No. TIS 3413-2565 [5] for Fire Extinguishing Ball on August 17, 2022
How the Automatic Fire Extinguishing Ball works[edit]
The Automatic Fire Extinguishing Ball acts to surveillance the fire extinguishing automatically 24 hours a day for 5 years without maintenance costs. There are two main working steps:
- Stop the continuous reaction of the fire. When the Automatic Fire Extinguishing Ball touches with flame will cause combustion. Inside the core of the Fire Extinguishing Ball and will generate sonic boom sound energy which will have a shock wave it similar to the sound of a single explosion and there will be working pressure, converting sound energy into diffuse wind energy, having a radius of 360 degrees, pushing the fuel gas mixed with atmospheric oxygen on the surface of the fuel where the accumulated heat causes it to oxidize called a redox reaction and the last wind energy pushes the fuel gases with a radius of 360 degrees away from the heated base of the fire.
- Cut off the chain reaction of fire. The wind will propels Elide Fire (ABC Dry Chemicals Powder) into a 360 degrees radius that acts as an acidbase becomes a water mist to inhibit the oxidizing chemical reaction, fire point, and cut off the fire chain reaction to extinguish the fire.
Both processes of the Automatic Fire Extinguishing Ball will work within 3-10 seconds.
Different types of fire according to the following standards[1][edit]
- Type A are fires caused by ordinary fuels that are easily flammable, such as wood, cloth, paper, plastic, fires in buildings.
- Class B are fires caused by flammable liquid fuels, gases, waxes, and oils.
- Type C are fires caused by live electrical equipment.
- Type F are fires that are rapidly expanding and have the highest temperature.
- Class G are fires caused by Class B fires, and C and F fires in the engine compartment.
