Flag of Jerusalem
Adopted1949
DesignTwo blue horizontal tallit-style stripes on a white background with the emblem of Jerusalem in the centre

The flag of Jerusalem is based on the flag of Israel. It features two horizontal blue stripes reminiscent of those on a tallit (a ritual prayer shawl in Judaism and Samaritanism), and a central display of the emblem of Jerusalem, which consists of a shield with the Lion of Judah flanked on either side by olive branches and superimposed on a stylized background representing the Western Wall; above the municipal emblem is the Hebrew-language word for Jerusalem (ירושלים‎‎, Yerushaláyim). The flag is sometimes displayed in a vertical variation during ceremonial functions.
