Flag of Sevastopol
The flag of Sevastopol is a red field charged with the city's coat of arms in the centre.
The current flag of Sevastopol was adopted in April 21, 2000. The coat of arms shown in the flag was adopted as the city's coat of arms in 1969, but in 1994 it was decided that the old coat of arms adopted during the tsarist era (in July 21, 1893) should be reintroduced. In 2000 the soviet era coat of arms was reintroduced. The symbols shown in the coat of arms, including the medal of the Hero of Soviet Union, represent the Soviet recognition of Sevastopol as a hero city during World War 2.[1]
The proportions of the flag are 2:3.
Status of Sevastopol[edit]
Sevastopol is a city in the southwest corner of Crimea. The status of Sevastopol and Crimea is disputed between Ukraine and Russia. In Ukraine Sevastopol is considered a city of special status, while in Russia it is considered a federal city.
