The flag of Southampton was announced on 19 October 2017, after a contest held by Southampton City Council to create a flag to represent the city.[1] The flag was officially inaugurated on 23 November 2017 at a ceremony organised by the city council.[2] The flag has been added to the Flag Institute’s UK Flag Registry [3]

Design[edit]
The flag was designed by Yihuan Han, a student from Portswood Primary School. The flag was chosen from over 500 entries from school children, which was then shortlisted to six designs that were put to a public vote from the residents of the city.[4]
The Rose represents the city's connection to the county of Hampshire. The anchor represents the city's maritime history.
Usage[edit]
Southampton City Council have granted businesses, residents and souvenir manufacturers manufactures to freely use the design of the flag.[5]
