The flag of Venda consisted of three equal horizontal stripes from top to bottom coloured green, yellow and brown, while on the hoist side there was a vertical blue stripe. In the centre of the yellow stripe is the letter 'V' in brown.
The brown symbolised the soil, yellow symbolises the countryside and the blue symbolises the sky. The letter 'V' stands for Venda.
The Venda flag was officially taken into use in 1979 when the area became a "self-governing territory". The flag remained unchanged at independence and continued to be used until 27 April 1994, when Venda was re-incorporated into South Africa.[1]
