Flash out

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Flash out is understood as the tool-free reading of stored error codes in engine control units (ECU), ABS controllers, airbag and A/C systems in cars and trucks.

To do this, the respective control unit is put into read-out mode (diagnostic code dump) and the corresponding light in the instrument cluster is observed and its flashing codes read, comparable to (pulse dialing or a phone strowger switch), with the number of flashing pulses corresponding to the number while "0" being output as 10 pulses.

Examples

  • Reading out the engine control unit (ECU): Put the jumper pin A to pin B of the 12-pin ALDL connector, switch on the ignition, do not start and count the flashing of the Check engine light.[1]
  • Reading out the ABS: Put the jumper between pin A and pin H of the 12-pin ALDL jack, turn on the ignition, do not start, and count the blinking of the ABS light. Not all GM vehicles have pin H in the 12-pin ALDL connector, then flashing is not possible.[2][3]
  • In the case of the T98 Opel Astra G, the bridge in the OBD-2 pin 4 and 6 does not have to be set in order to flash the ECU. It is sufficient to hold the accelerator pedal in kick-down and hold the brake pedal as deep as possible until stop lights appear and then turn on ignition.[4][5][6]
