The magazine was founded in 1998 by Luis Barajas and Jim Turner[1] with Matthew Bedard as the Editor in Chief.[2]

Past cover models include David Bowie, Brad Pitt, Salma Hayek, Beyoncé, Britney Spears, SZA, and Scarlett Johansson.

In April 2019, a lawsuit was filed against the magazine and its executives for alleged workplace violations.[3] Both lawsuits were later dismissed and settled privately.[4]
