Flint A. Lane is an American entrepreneur. Lane is best known as the founder of software startups Paytrust and Billtrust, as well as being the founder of the first U.S. national league for table tennis, Major League Table Tennis.
Early life and education
Lane grew up in Shoreham, New York with two brothers. He graduated from Shoreham-Wading River High School in the class of 1984.[5] He got his B.S. in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York and graduated in 1988.[1] He worked for Accenture, BrownStone Solutions, Platinum Technology, and Logic Works[6] before starting his career as an entrepreneur.
Career
Lane founded his first company, Paytrust, in 1998. Paytrust was acquired by Metavante Corporation in 2002.[7] Intuit later acquired Paytrust customers from Metavante in 2005.
Lane founded Billtrust in 2001 in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.[8] For over 20 years, Lane led the company as Chairman and CEO, announcing the SPAC merger with South Mountain Merger Corp.[9] On January 12, 2021, Billtrust began its NASDAQ debut as BTRS Holdings, Inc. on NASDAQ under the symbol BTRS. Later, on September 28, 2022, Billtrust was acquired by EQT Partners.[10] Lane remained the CEO until December 19, 2022 when it was announced that Sunil Rajasekar was appointed as his successor.[11]
During his tenure with Billtrust, Lane won various awards, including the 25 Most Influential Financial Operations Professionals by the Institute of Financial Operations (IFO), Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year of Greater Philadelphia and the 2017 Technology CEO of the Year by the Greater Philadelphia Alliance for Capital and Technologies.[12]
In 2014, Lane opened Princeton Pong in West Windsor, New Jersey.[3] Princeton Pong is in a 10,000 square foot building that was once a warehouse, and still operates today.
In 2023, Lane announced that he was launching the U.S.'s first national table tennis league, Major League Table Tennis, out of Naples, Florida.[13] Within just a few months of inception, Major League Table Tennis was featured on ESPN8: The Ocho.[14]
According to his LinkedIn, Lane continues to serve on a variety of boards for technology companies.
Philanthropy
Lane started volunteering as a Big Brother as part of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America in 2006 where he became a Director.[15] He also volunteers for Boys & Girls Clubs of America of Collier County, Florida.
