Florida Orchestra Association
The Florida Orchestra Association (FOA) is a Florida statewide organization that supports, promotes and expands school orchestra programs as well as providing support and training for music educators and leaders in Florida.[1] It was created in 1946 when it split from the previous Vocal and Orchestra Association, becoming its own entity, and currently operates independently from its choral equivalent (Florida Vocal Association) and band equivalent (Florida Bandmasters Association).[2]
Key roles of the FOA are coordinating and hosting orchestra festivals for students and music educators, such as the FMEA/FOA All-State and MPAs (Music Performance Assessments), providing adjudicator training and other resources for music educators in the state,[3] and holding music education professional development conferences to promote and empower orchestra directors and educators in the state.[4]
The current president of the executive committee of the FOA is Laurie Bitters, and the Executive Director is Cheri Sleeper.[5]
