Flying Whales is a French aeronautic start-up that develops an environmentally-friendly airship, the LCA60T, designed to transport heavy loads without structural supports.[1]

History

Founded in 2012 by Sébastien Bougon, Flying Whales was initially focused on wood exploitation in partnership with the Office National des Forêts (ONF). A market launch of the first models is planned for 2025.[1]

Equity

The company receives financial support from several institutional players including the French government, the Canadian province of Quebec, and the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC). In July 2022, Flying Whales raised 122 million euros to finalize the LCA60T's development, with investors including the Government of France, the Principality of Monaco, Air Liquide's ALIAD venture capital fund, the Groupe ADP, and Société Générale Assurances.[2]

The LCA60T

The LCA60T is designed as a means of transport for regions inaccessible by road. With dimensions of up to 200 meters long and 50 meters high, it could be one of the largest aircraft in operation.[3]
