Food Future Co is an American business accelerator for established, small organizations with growth potential in the following food-related areas: agriculture, food and beverages, health & wellness, clean technology and green technology. Founded by Shen Tong in 2015,[1] Food Future, Inc. [2] is based on his impact investment thesis cited in the TEDxManhattan Talk: "Feeding the Food Movement." Shen Tong founded Food-X in 2014,[3] which was named among "The World's Top 10 Most Innovative Companies of 2015 in Food."[4]

Scale-up accelerator program[edit]

In Spring 2016, Food Future was launched as business accelerator program for scaleup companies in food & beverages, agriculture and social entrepreneurship sectors. The program accepts applications from US and international companies focused on impact, mission, building behavioral patterns and setting cultural trends.[5]

Food Future was cited in the 2016 ReFED Report: "A Roadmap To Reduce U.S. Food Waste by 20 Percent"[6] as a food-related accelerator that sponsors companies focused on major innovation challenges in reducing food waste.[6] and during the 2016 Food Tank Summit.[7]

Eight to twelve companies are selected for the accelerator program, each receiving in-kind value of up to $100,000 per company. Up to three companies receive additional investment as part of their Series A round of financing. Prominent mentors and advisors include Dan Barber, Laurent Gras, and Dorothy Cann Hamilton.

Participating companies receive training and assistance in:

  • Financing design and network including alternative financing, long term investment strategy, and creative debt financing.[8]
  • Thought leadership in marketing and branding.
  • Distribution partnerships and alternative distribution channels.
  • Production strategy on sourcing, formulation and co-packing.
  • Financial exit strategy, acquisitions, roll-up, IPOs.
  • Governance structure design, formation of advisory boards, councils, etc.
  • Organizational and operating model design, recruiting and maintaining talent, building systems, using processes and tools to scale operations.
  • Legal and accounting advisory support to help companies prepare their corporate legal and investment structure to scale.
