The Formosan Girl Awards[1][edit]

Formosan Girl Awards[2]] were founded by The Garden of Hope Foundation[3]] (GOH) with the purpose to respond to the International Day of the Girl[4]], proposing the idea of respect toward women and encourages the girls in Taiwan to be lively and brave to pursue their dreams. The award ceremony is held on October 11th each year (The same day of the International Day of Girls) starting from 2002.

The Formosan Girl Awards are open to girls of the age group 10 to 18, and the Awards are categorized into 5 diverse groups including Math and Technology, Courage and Adventure, Community Development, Sports, and Creativity, and there are three winners in each category. According to the statistics of the Garden of Hope Foundation, over 200 girls have been awarded the Formosan Girl awards over the years, and the average age of the first session winners is 30.[5]

Formosan Girl Awards ceremony welcomes any audience to watch the performance of the award- winning girls and simultaneously, announces the winners of the award. These winners will receive a crystal trophy and a silver ring passed down from the previous winners, which symbolizes passing Formosan Girl’s missions down from generation to generation.

The winners of the Formosan Girl Awards will have the privilege to attend a study tour in the next year to help improve sex equality, girls’ status and education.
