The Formula Opel Euroseries was a European championship for racing cars that corresponded to the Formula Opel.
The series was launched in 1988 by the European Formula Drivers Association (EFDA). The EFDA itself organized Europe-wide competitions for formula vehicles, especially those of Formula Ford . In addition to the Euro series, there were other national series in Germany, Great Britain, Ireland and the BeNeLux countries. Initially, the series also had the name of the car manufacturer Lotus in the name. But after Lotus was sold by General Motors , the owners of Opel, the word Lotus was dropped.
The vehicles were equipped with two-liter engines and had wings. Accordingly, the formula should be placed directly below formula 3 . 1999 was the last season of the Euro Series, after all national Formula Opel series had ceased racing. At the time, this was mainly due to dwindling support from Opel and a lack of technical development. At this point in time, the technical basis of the vehicles was over ten years old.
