Forouzan Kordbacheh (Persian: فروزان کردبچه, born 1967 in Tehran, Iran) is an Iranian musician, composer, and music educator. A professional santur player and teacher, she is among the active representatives of Iran’s contemporary classical and traditional music scene.[1]

Early life and education

Kordbacheh was born in 1987 in Tehran, Iran, into a family of musicians. Her father, Ali Asghar Kordbacheh, was a tar player and composer, and her grandfather, Ali Jan Kordbacheh, was among the early members of Tehran Radio Orchestra. She began studying music at the age of 9 at the National Conservatory of Music, focusing on the santur.[2]

Career

After completing her studies at the Conservatory, Kordbacheh pursued advanced training with renowned Iranian masters of santur and Persian classical music. She later joined the Degree Ensemble and performed under the direction of Mehrdad Delnavazi and Jalaleddin Minaei. She has collaborated with several orchestras and music institutes in Iran and has been involved in teaching and promoting Persian music for over two decades.[2]

In 2003 (1382 SH), she obtained official authorization from the Iranian Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance to establish her own music academy, Kordbacheh Music School, where she continues to teach and manage educational programs.[2]

Teaching and influence

Kordbacheh has trained numerous students and contributed to the development of contemporary Iranian santur performance. She emphasizes both technical precision and the preservation of traditional expression in Persian modal music (Dastgah).

Legacy

Forouzan Kordbacheh is recognized for her role in preserving and transmitting Persian music traditions to younger generations while promoting modern approaches to music education in Iran.
