Fort Payne Motor Speedway, formerly known as Thunder Mountain Speedway is a 38-mile (0.60 km) banked clay oval race track located in Fyffe, AL. [2]

About[edit]

In the 1990s, Fort Payne Motor Speedway was built. When it was built, it was known as Thunder Mountain Speedway. The track was a great attraction in the 1990s and in the 2000s on Friday nights. In 2006, Thunder Mountain Speedway closed down and would be closed for the next year. In 2007, Marvin Ford purchased the track and renamed the track to Fort Payne Motor Speedway. Marvin has done many adjustments to the track, including expanding the pit area. In 2019, He built a wall around the race track, which was never there before. In the same year, more banking was added to the track. Fort Payne Motor Speedway has been a great attraction on Sand Mountain. There is racing action every Saturday night during the racing season (April through September). Also, there are occasional races during the off-season (October through March).

Ownership[edit]

In the 1990s up until 2006, Ray Barksdale co-owned the track with other people. In 2007, Marvin Ford was granted ownership of the track. Marvin Ford currently owns it.
