Fortune Aleta-Ledesma (born Fortune Fontanilla Aleta) is a Filipino optometrist, diplomat, and philanthropist. She is the Honorary Consul General of the Principality of Monaco to the Philippines and has previously served as the Dean of the Consular Corps of the Philippines.[1][2]
She is the first Filipino to be appointed as a Chevalier (Knight) of the Monégasque Order of Saint Charles.[3]
Early life and education
Aleta was raised in Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija.[4] She is the daughter of former Nueva Ecija Governor Amado Aleta, a military official, and Corazon Fontanilla Farro, a schoolteacher from La Union.[5]
In accordance with her father's encouragement for his daughters to pursue independent professional careers,[promotion?] she studied optometry and graduated cum laude, eventually topping the government board examinations for optometrists.[5][6]
Diplomatic and civic career
Ledesma has long represented the interests of Monaco in the Philippines as its top consular official, facilitating diplomatic, cultural, and bilateral exchanges between the two nations.[promotion?][7] Within the local diplomatic circles, she serves as a key executive officer of the Philippines Consular Corps,[vague] organizing high-profile functions such as the annual Consular Ball.[8]
Apart from her diplomatic duties, she holds leadership and advisory roles in several civic, cultural, and philanthropic organizations.[vague] She is the chairperson of the Johann Strauss Society of the Philippines, which raises funds to promote classical music and support charitable institutions, and has served as the president of the Inner Wheel Club of Manila.[2][6] Her philanthropic projects include fundraising and operational support for the Virlanie Children's shelter, indigent pediatric units at the Philippine General Hospital, and disaster-relief housing ventures.[2]
Personal life
She is married to Rene Ledesma, a corporate entrepreneur who serves as the Honorary Consul of Bulgaria to the Philippines.[5][9] The couple has three children: Rina, Rico, and Rene Jr., better known as the media personality and entrepreneur RJ Ledesma.[5][6]
