On October 15, 1977., four renowned folk and country rock singer-songwriters -- including Harry Chapin, Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor and John Denver -- performed for nearly three hours to benefit world hunger[1]. Terry Clemens, the former lead guitar player for Gordon Lightfoot, played background guitar with all four singers.

The concert, called "Four Together: World Hunger Concert," was performed at the Olympia Stadium in Detroit, Mich. Each artist performed 2-3 songs using a revolving stage that belonged to Denver. A first-person account of the concert was published by Michael Peterrman, professor emeritus of English literature at Trent University[2]

It was played live on CKLW AM 800, the Windsor, Ont. Canada radio station that served southwestern Ontario and metropolitan Detroit. Recordings of the concert do not appear to be available. However, a pair of bootleg audio recordings are currently available on YouTube. The first is a duet with Lightfoot and Denver called "Irish Lullaby" in memory to singer-songwriter Bing Crosby who died a few days before the concert was held. The audio segment also includes the pairing of Denver with Chapin singing Chapin's hit, "Taxi." The second audio segment includes Taylor singing his hit, "Sweet Baby James" with Denver singing background harmony. It also includes Chapin singing "Mr. Tanner," with Denver singing the chorus to "O Holy Night" in the background while Chapin performed the chorus to Mr. Tanner.

A photo shows the four artists clowning around backstage at the event.

The concert poster and set list from the event are available online.
