Fourou (insect)
Fourou are insects smaller than 1 mm that are endemic to Gabon and neighbouring countries[1] [2]. They consume blood and leave an itchy red spot[3]. They are active daily approximately from 17:00 to 18:30 (as night falls).
Tiny insects, less than 1 mm, they land on discovered skin and sting to gorge themselves with blood. The itching appears almost immediately and leaves red spots on the skin. These insects disappear very quickly as night falls. If they appear around 17:00, they disappear very quickly after 18:30. They can fly through mosquito nets and are unaffected by anti-mosquito sprays.[1]
