Fox Products Corporation is an American manufacturer of bassoons, contrabassoons, oboes and English horns[1] based in South Whitley, Indiana. It is one of the largest producer of double reed instruments in America.[2][3][4]


Founder Hugo Fox played bassoon for the Chicago Symphony for almost 30 years. After retiring in 1949, he returned to his childhood home of South Whitley, Indiana, to make bassoons.[5] The company began selling bassoons in 1951 and in 1963, Hugo's son Alan Fox took over leadership of the company. Fox Products' first contrabassoon was produced in 1970, shortly after Hugo Fox's death in 1969. Fox began selling oboes in 1974, and English horns in 1999. [6] By the late 1980s, the company was producing 800-1000 bassoons and 24 contrabassoons per year.[7] By 2014, Fox Products was selling over 2,300 instruments per year.[8]


The company remains a family owned business and has about 130 employees [9]
