Framar is a Canadian brand of hair tools and accessories that cater to hair colourist's and salon professionals. Combining decades of experience in salons with their contemporary, modern style, Framar products are distributed in over 70 countries across the globe.[1]

History[edit]

The company is named Framar after the founders “Frank” and “Maria,” who started the company in 1986. It all started Frank traveled to England where he discovered the use of aluminum foil for highlights as opposed to cap and needles, and he brought that technique back to Canada with him. Frank owner a little salon where Maria was a receptionist. She started buying rolls of foil at the grocery store but would get foil cuts on her fingers, so together they decided to find a manufacturer where the foil would already be pre-cut. Finally, they found one in the United States that could do it, and hey decided to try and go from salon to salon in Ontario trying to sell this new product and teach this new technique to salons.

Maria grew this business by making calls from the basement of their house. They were the first ones to do roll foil and the first ones in North American to sell hair foil. When their eldest son Giovanni joined the company, they changed everything from products to packaging. No one in the foil category had ever made a brand out of foil. It was always commodity-based like saran wrap at the grocery store – it’s about who can give it to you for the cheapest. Framar didn’t want to be known as the cheapest, opting to create the best preforming, and best looking products on the market. The company developed relationships with stylists through social media, and from there, everything started falling into place. Maria still heads the company to this day.[2]

Utilizing popular social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, the brand has built a community of loyal fans who regularly engage with the brand, and also create original and organic content featuring Framar products. The strategy has paid dividends for the brand. At one time, available only to hairstylists in their home country of Canada, Framar products are now distributed in over 70 countries around the world.[3]
